This picture I have posted on behalf of Bernie, taken from his link of lost Birmingham Pubs. What does the '1853' bit refer to; it can't be the photo date, so is that when Monmouth Street became Colmore Row?

The Great Western VaultsThe Great Western Vaults on Monmouth Street, now Colmore Row. Previously known as the Dolphin and operating since 1786, it became the Great Western Vaults (often shortened to the Great Western) in 1853 under landlord John Currier. Photographed by Marian Silverston in 1911 around the time it closed. Following which it reportedly became part of Boots the chemists. The photograph was taken as part of the Warwickshire Photographic Survey.
