My Dad - number 52. Around late 1920s. On the back of the photo is 'Hollyfields motor club motorcycle trials'. He always said this was taken in Quinton, around where the Warley Bowl was. Would that be the junction with Lordswood Road? He never said anything about winning though so I guess he didn't !!

Hi Patricia I've done a quick revamp of your photo, hope you like it. If you don't just let me know and I'll remove it Jerry

Thanks to both of you - that's great. Can anyone identify the bike? He'd moved onto motorbike and sidecar by the time I made an appearance, and then on to an old Austin 7 which I can just vaguely remember.

I've just done a quick trawl and if you take 1925 as the date there were well over 30 different manufacturers in the UK alone so from that picture I wouldn't have a clue. Jerry

Don't think you exaggerated the "pea-souper" fogs. I lived in Byron Rd from 1945 till the late 1960's and I can remember looking out of the window and not being able to see the no. 28 bus (mentioned in other posts) passing (creeping) by.

Perhaps this early drawing of the city skyline goes some of the way to explaining those fogs, that disappeared after the introduction of smokeless zones. When all we wanted to do was moan about the extra cost of smokeless fuel. Attachments:
