Does anyone remember any of the Coffman family who hailed from Monica Road. I've known John Coffman since 1971 when he moved to redditch, also his father Jack, now deceased. They were regulars in the Monica Pub before moving to Redditch. One of the family was killed in a fight there, must have been about 20 years ago at Christmas or New Year.

Hi jerry, don,t know if it,s the same family but I know of the Coffman,s who lived on the corner of heybarnes and Somerville road just down from the Monica, their son Kevin was killed in a neighbour dispute on the bromford estate ,on a new years eve about twenty years ago, real shame...his nickname was Zeff, quite a character. My brother in law worked with him on the gas,and he organised a memorial fundraiser for the family at the gas club in erdington, attended by blues players and officials....skiddy

Hi Skiddy, sounds like the same family, it would be too much of a coincidence otherwise. I still see John Coffman about once a month, next time I see him I'll find out and let you know.

Hi again Skiddy I was in Redditch today and I spoke to Johnny Coffman. You're bang on with everything you said. Kevin, the one who was killed, was one of John's brothers and also had a twin. When I mentioned your name John said that he was sure a Skidmore ran the Monica at one time.?

Hi Sheila,
just joined the site, reading the threads took me and my husband Paul way back to the good old days of the Monica, Paul and I knew Kevin (Bone) Paul was good friends with him, used to go clubbing up Locarno with him when they were kids. Kevin was a great laugh, with a fantastic personality, terrible shock to all when he was killed.
We havnt lived in Brum for over 17 years, but we had hoped to have our wedding anniversary at the Monica a few years ago, its gone...……… its now a banqueting hall I think./// he Custard House has also gone, , we were shocked there are no longer any old haunts left in the area. Happy times.
