Removal of No 2885 Locomotive from Birmingham’s Moor Street Station.
During the early hours of the 2nd June, GWR 2-8-0 steam locomotive No 2885 was lifted by crane out from Birmingham Moor Street station, where it had been on display for 12 years and was taken to Tyseley for overhaul.

Had a look at the vacated site today and there's a distinct sag in the rails where 100 tons of loco stood for 12 years.

Forgot to look this up in my 1950 Combine reprint; what I DID do though was to look up the 'namers' that were shedded at 84E Tyseley. We had nothing exotic like Kings, Castles or Stars, but we did have one Saint - 2932 Ashton Court. Others were:- 4924 Eydon Hall 4959 Purley Hall 4964 Rodwell Hall 4980 Wrottesley Hall 5907 Marble Hall 5909 Newton Hall 5916 Trinity Hall 5927 Guild Hall 5950 Wardley Hall 5993 Kirby Hall 5997 Sparkford Hall 6904 Charfield Hall 6942 Eshton Hall 6971 Athelhampton Hall 7912 Little Linford Hall 7913 Little Wyrley Hall 7918 Rhose Wood Hall 6843 Poulton Grange 6847 Tidmarsh Grange 6853 Morehampton Grange 6858 Woolston Grange 6866 Morfa Grange 7800 Torquay Manor Incredibly, the same search for 21A Saltley revealed that the were NO namers shedded there at all!

The hobby's changed a bit in 60 years: in the old days you'd scramble up onto the wall at Small Heath and a gleeful kid might tell you that, "Clun Castle went through 5 minutes ago", but today's spotter would inform you that you'd just missed 67 013 'cos he couldn't pronounce 'Dyfrbont Pontcysyllte' (which I've just seen in Moor Street Station).
