Such a shame to see whats happening to all our Pubs. Even though i lived over Small Heath I used The Ringers regularly. Had some great times in there and some fantastic Meals. Lou and Jan were looking after it then in the 90's. I see my old local The Vic on Bordesley Green has now been turned into a Mosque. So sad. Wal.

Hi Wal,
I lived for 11 years in Prince Albert Street, so I know the Vic very well. Although it is sad to see the pub closed, opening again as a Mosque does preserve the building, as has been done to the old Library, as opposed to sending in the bulldozer [something you know about ].
Ray.

We had the last 'big family/friends party' at the ring o bells when my aunt Ruby (her of the Fire Service) was 80 - so quite poignant memories - it was one of the last times my mum was able to do something like that before she became frail - aunt Ruby also a couple of years later. Jan

Ray i only worked on Demolition i did'nt pick what got Knocked down and what was left standing. Some lovely Buildings were Demolished but also some Squalid houses etc were also Demolished, all in the name of Progress. When the Vic was going strong the Asian community in Bordesley Green tried to get it closed. And to tell you truth there was very little trouble there in all the 35 years or so i used it. But when it closed they could'nt wait to turn it into a Mosque. Hypocrites comes to mind..Wal.

They kept complaing about the noise. It was just an excuse Vince, they did not want a pub in the area. But above the Carpet shop opposite they had a Snooker Club upstairs and there was always problems there. It was actually a Drugs Den. Police were always raiding it and arresting kids for Drug Offences. But the Club was first opened by some friends of mine The Weldon Brothers. Again after complaints they sold out. And again Asians bought it. Wal.
