This pic from 1957 isn't all that great but it was a very poor photo to begin with. Still, it gives an idea of what the shops were like "live" Starting at the extreme right you can see part of the gate to Tranters coal yard at 155. Next is Stephens Electrical store at 157. Then, at 159, there was old Albert Ferguson's second hand shop. At 161 was Albert Funnel's grocery shop. 163 was a private dwelling then at No. 165, at the corner with Bertram Road, was George Hill's barber shop. There's a bit of a mystery about the opposite corner of Bertram Road. It's obviously a shop and I seem to remember it being a greengrocers at one time but I can't find it listed in any of the directories of the time. Anyone got a clue?

Looks like it's got the typical greengrocers' window dressing of the time: short vertical red & white stripes along the top of the windows (something to do with Batchelor's, maybe?).
