Three nice pics of Aston Cross, 50s & 60s This one was taken from outside the Golden Cross looking up Park Lane. The bus stop is where I used to catch the Inner Circle 8 to go to Small Heath after we moved to Aston. ________________________________________________________________________________________ This one was taken in Park Road with Ansells Brewery just showing on the left and a great view of The Golden Cross and further on the start of Aston Road North. I'd forgotten the Woolworths store 'til I saw this pic. ______________________________________________________________________________________ This one shows the clock and a view of Park Road with tower Road on the left and The Royal George pub. It was said that you always got a perfect pint in there which was probably true since it was an M&B pub situated right opposite Ansells Brewery and head office Jerry

These photos bring back a lot of memories for me.
When I worked at IMI in the 60's, every day I would get off the good old number 8 bus at Aston Cross & wait for the 39? bus up Park Road to Witton.
Around 1966, I bought a push bike and cycled it from Sparkhill, where we had moved to in 1965. Then I progressed onto a Lambretta Ldb scooter. The clutch failed half way up Park road, so I ended up pushing it!!

These photos certainly bring memories for me. Born and brought up in Carlton Road, Small Heath I married an Aston girl and lived with her grandmother in Stretton Road off Rocky Lane just off Aston Cross. Later joined the Police Service and did many a point duty on the cross having been posted to Victoria Road Police Station, I got paid for doing overtime at Villa Park and enjoyed it even more when they lost. 66 years on I am still married to that Aston girl.
