Nothing to do with Small Heath, but I dont do Birmingham History Forum, so its maybe worth asking.
Anybody know anything at all about Weedon Place, Pershore Rd ?
Mentioned in a will I read recently, No. 32 Weedon Place. Sounds like a block of flats or something to me, but in the 1850s ?

Found it, Weedon Place was at the rear of 63 Pershore Rd, which is roughly between Belgrave Rd and Balsall Heath Rd. I should have known that the other districts I mentioned were not a part of Birmingham in the mid 1800's were they?

A little more info, it seems that Weedon Place was situated on Pershore Rd (marked with an X on the map) where later it was replaced by a Sportsdrome. I'm assuming that it was some sort of a boarding house or hostel. Attachments:

Been reading someone elses notes on family history of my GG Grandmother. Someone resident at 63 Pershore Rd left 2 houses in Weedon Place. Someone else was left No. 32 Weedon place. So presumably there must have been at least 32 dwellings there. Also other family members left houses all over Brum. far as I can tell in lots of 6s or 7s. Wherever all that money went, it dai come to my lot.

Vince,
No it would have been the opposite side of the road to the Earl Gray on the corner of what is now Bellvue. Where occasionally my grandfather would take me to watch the wrestling in the Sportsdrome that replaced Weedon Place. As there were no blocks of flats in the 1850's that I'm aware of it was possibly a residential hotel if the person you are looking for lived at number 32.

Hi Vince I doubt if it'll help your quest but Kelly's 1940 directory has Nos. 63 and 65 Pershore road listed as The Twenty Two Sports Club Ltd. no other details It had gone by 1943

Looks like s large houses on the map, which would make sense, but where would the number 32 come from ? Here are some of the notes. There are other mentions of 63, and of 32 but they dont shed any more light. Look to me like Weedon Place is No.63, just cant see where 32 comes in. wills 2 houses called Weedon Place to Mary Ann Twiss in 1869 to sell and
divide money between any unmarried brothers ans sisters.
will left 7 properties in Swallow Str., 2 properties in Pershore Rd. occupied
by John Palmer, 27 shares in the Old Union Mill Bham and 20 shares in the New
Union Mill Bham.
Named in Sarah Harris Twiss's admon.
1881 resident at 32 Weedon Place, Pershore Rd
will 1901 resident at 63 Pershore Rd.

If Weedon Place was in fact a residential hotel, then number 32 could have been apartment number 32. Or apartment 2 on the third floor.

Yes, but the notes mention leaving two houses in Weedon Pl, not apartments. Possible they were tenement type dwellings ? The same family seem to have owned back to backs, in summer La, Thorpe St & Inge St. Hardly palatial properties. the Union Mill shares are interesting in that one residence is listed as Grosvenor St. Probably one of those things we will never know.
