In the BBC1 series, "Blitz cities" David Harewood the actor, who lived in Oldknow Road in the 70's, looks back at the effects of the blitz on Small Heath, especially on the BSA. There is some great footage, and also photos & personal recollections. The Blues' ground is visited & its involvement in WW11 is discussed This programme is on i-Player for 29 days from today (11th September), and is well worth a visit. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b06bgsvy/blitz-cities-5-birminghamRegards Pete

Definitely worth watching. I caught the programme just before I left for work.....consequently I was late! I never realised David Harewood came from Small Heath. Reading up about him, I found that his surname Harewood was taken from Lord Harewood, the Lascelles family, who owned the sugar plantation where David's family were enslaved.

Those who missed 'The Blitz in the Midlands' at 6am on the movies4men channel (Freeview 48) yesterday can rest assured that having a lie-in instead was a good idea, as the standard of this documentary was pretty dire with most of the hour-long programme being given over to Coventry and Nottingham, and only about 5 minutes devoted to Brum.
