Jerry perhaps you might be able to use these on your "Our Coventry Rd" thread, that's if they haven't been posted before.

Hi Vince, The picture is taken of the left side of the Cov.(from town).
To the left of the second hand shop was a terrace of back to backs. Just a few yards past the church was Muntz Street. (Malt Shovel)
Regards Joe.

Either before my time or I never noticed it. Only one I remember on that side was near The Brighton. Cant remember what it was called, but I remember being kicked out of the Cubs there.

I don't doubt that your right Joe. I'm a bit confused though. If you look at the same view on streetview there's no sign of it, and what is there looks much older than it should considering your pic is probably from the mid 50s. I didnt even know the Malt Shovel had gone.

Vince,
The camera angle on the second photo makes it look different to what it actually was, it misses out those set back shops you see on the modern Google street scene. The Congregational Church was between numbers 466 & 476 Coventry road and was in fact replaced by Brierley's Market that building remains today although it has been split up into smaller units.

The one near the Brighton was the Methodist Church. Both it and the Congregational Church by Muntz Street were used during the week as annexes for Somerville Road School pupils who lived to the west of Muntz Street (so that they wouldn't need to cross that busy road).

From photographs of the time. The only way to get run over would be to lie down in the road and wait for a car to hit you.

Right if we have managed to sort that one out between us, then here is another one, this one is Coventry Rd between Golden Hillock Rd and Wordsworth Rd on the same side as those roads and it was taken in 1968. Attachments:

I'm sure I have seen that picture on here, but taken from the direction of Grays. I remember the Cement mixer and the scooter being parked so far from the curb. I will have a copy but trouble is its on a remote HDD that I wont find till after I move house.
