I had a similar experience but i wasn't quite as lucky. I borrowed a bike off a pal and it didn't have any brakes. I had to stop it by sticking my foot on the side of the front wheel. I rode that bike out to the old Elmdon Airport without mishap but coming back, on Hay Mills Hill in the rush hour I ran into the back of a bus and finished up in a heap in the middle of the road, bleeding from the nose I was taken to the police station which is now the Old Bill and Bull pub. They sent for an ambulance and carted me off to the old Accident Hospital where they stitched up my nose, I've still got the scar ( and a few more ) How we ever managed to reach adulthood is still a mystery! Love this photo of a cricket match on a bomb site in Small Heath. I can't imagine today's fashion conscious youngsters putting up with clothes like these!! I remember the home-made wickets and cricket bat. We made some exactly the same. Looks like the pitch needs the heavy roller though! Pete

My Dad rented a Ford Popular for a week in the early 1960's to take us on holiday. Unfortunately when we came to leave, the battery was flat. So Dad, my brother, John, and me ended up pushing it to Mansel Road to bump start it down the hill. Dad then had to drive the car to the garage from which he'd rented it in order to get a new battery.
That was day one of the holiday gone. The rest of the holiday is another story.

Could you jog my memory regarding the name & what goods were manufactured by the small factory opposite Baker street please?
