More Birmingham photos... Things could be worse.... Life expectancy in mid-late Victorian Birmingham was 29-35! Prior to the Elan Valley project, in the inner city areas, water could only be obtained from dubious sources such as contaminated wells and from hawkers selling from barrels.
More than a slight Dickensian look about the photos? Hanley street Lower Tower street Pope Street

Despite the best efforts by city council, I'm glad to say that many of the scenes depicted in these old postcards are recognisable even today. But I still stand by my argument that some of the old buildings from the 17/18/19 centuries should never have been demolished. Many European cities have successfully managed to blend in the new with the old - why couldn't Birmingham ? Backhanders!

Have you noticed the little 'un on the left with no shoes?
I really enjoy seeing all these photos - please keep them coming.
Hmmm. did that wrong - I'm referring to the photo captioned 'wot no i-pad?'.
